Bobbi King
My name is Bobbi King, and I am a leader in a Mobile Home Resident Coalition. I live in a manufactured home community called Del Mar Estates. We really need help with the unaffordable lot rents in manufactured home communities.
In 2003, I was declared legally blind. In 2008, I proudly purchased and secured a mortgage on a manufactured home. In 2010, I was laid off from my job when the recession hit California; I was 58. In 2012, I had no job, my savings were used up, and I had to file for SSDI.
I lost my home in October of that same year. My social security was still not enough to cover the mortgage, rent, and living expenses.
In 2017, I was offered a room to rent in the Del Mar Estates community, where I have lived as a renter since. My rent is 39% of my income, but I only have a bedroom and a bathroom, not even an entire home.
We need to address skyrocketing lot rents for manufactured homes, and a rent stabilization policy that will keep me, and many more like me, housed and not homeless.
