Sindy Malloy
My name is Sindy Malloy. I live in Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park in Argentine, Michigan. I moved here over 21 years ago. At that time, the lot lease covered the lot rent, water, electricity, and trash removal.
When Havenpark bought the community, the cost of living here increased drastically. They increased the lot rent, added sewage/water meter installations, and began charging trash, admin, and even pet fees. They’ve threatened homeowners who have pets over 35 lbs that they may be evicted if they don’t get rid of their dogs. Havenpark has increased our trash removal fee up to $23.25/month for approximately 200 residents.
When a senior citizen like myself must choose between medication and a forced increase on our trash fee, it's a big deal. What Havenpark is doing to our community is tragic. Some mobile homeowners are in fear of complaining because they feel that Havenpark may retaliate and find some reason to kick them out of their forever homes.
Despite the increased cost of living, the living conditions here in our community are deteriorating. On Feb 15, 2022, while boiling water to cook pasta, I noticed a cloudy film floating at the top of the pot. I’m afraid to drink the water here. We can’t live like this.
The thought of being priced out of our homes is frightening! Now, I am at a point where I can no longer just pick up and move. If Havenpark prices us out, I fear they will move in a newer model mobile home and charge the new tenants three time what they charge us now.
We feel like we have a target on our backs, knowing Havenpark has no issue evicting us if we can no longer afford our homes. It’s incredibly upsetting to know that my children and grandchildren, who are also purchasing homes here, are in the same situation. I would like for my family and neighbors to be able to breathe a little easier, feel a little safer, and be more secure.
