Vivian Mackenzie

Two women smile inside of their home. The one on the left has short hair, glasses and a green shirt. The one on the right has long hair and wears black. She is holding a baby dresses in yellow.

My name is Vivian Mackenzie, and my wife and I live in River’s Edge in Clinton Township with our baby daughter. We have a cute little house, and I talk to the neighbors on both sides. I love the community and recommend manufactured housing to everyone I know. It is so much better than apartment living.

When we moved in, our house was brand new and our lease said that it came with central air. Months later when the heat of summer hit and my wife was heavily pregnant, we wondered why it didn’t seem to be cooling the house. Finally, the management told us that they had never installed one. They weren’t going to do anything or even mention it. It was the height of summer, and the heat was especially hard on my wife, who again, was several months pregnant. Only after we pushed hard – and only a day before our daughter was born – did they finally install it.

We are raising our daughter in a manufactured housing community. This is where she is going to grow up, and I know it can be a great place for us to live. That’s why I am pushing for stronger protections for residents. I don’t want her to grow up with a bunch of memories of not being able to afford anything because the rent keeps going up. I want this to be a safe, happy place for her to live.
