Ada Hand
My name is Ada Hand and I live in Del Mar Mobile Home Estates in Huntington Beach, CA. I moved here in 2015 because it was a more affordable option and seemed like a welcoming community.
After the previous owner of the park passed away, his kids took over. Although rents have gone up, for the most part, residents and ownership try to work together to resolve community issues. I believe this relationship sets an example of how resident-owner relationships should be.
Neighbors here help each other out whenever someone is in need, whether it's running errands, yard maintenance, or a gasoline card. As corporate owners continue buying up communities here, we’ve embraced supporting not just our own community members, but all manufactured housing residents. We give regular presentations in other communities to inform and educate residents of their rights and warn them of predatory buyouts.
Our goal is to get a rent stabilization ordinance (RSO) passed here so we are protected against rent gouging and aren’t pushed out of our homes. This is a national issue that can be addressed at a local level. We contribute to this city and our concerns must be taken seriously. We are all in this together!
