Andrea Crannell
My name is Andrea Crannell and I have been a resident of the Lorendale Mobile Home Park in Greenfield Center, NY, since 2006. I am 70-years-old and disabled after being hurt in 2 accidents. I bought my home which was the only affordable option I had because I am on a very low, fixed income.
Our prior landlord was a respectful and caring landlord and no one had any complaints about how he took care of the park.
Then in September 2022 our park was sold to Anthony Lotruglio. When I first spoke to Mr. Lotruglio, he asked me if I was on a fixed income and I replied yes. He also verbally promised me that he would plow my driveway, but that happened only once.
After that, due to the icy roads and no plowing, during the winter snowy days, propane delivery, emergency vehicles, mail delivery, and my meal delivery can’t access anyone’s home. Even during the other seasons, it's very easy to get stuck in the mud in our community. These are all services that we pay for to have our community be habitable.
I’ve texted Mr. Lotruglio several times with my concerns and received no response. We have no one to contact with our concerns or if there is an emergency. We believe that our park is in uninhabitable conditions. Mr. Lotruglio has no care for the people in our community. The only thing that interests him is how much profit he makes off our backs. Rents go up and maintenance goes down.
We fear getting priced out of our homes. I hope to make a difference by bringing positive changes for manufactured home park residents across New York State.
As an activist in my community, and as an MHAction leader, I have to say the struggles and insecurity that families across the state are facing by the takeover of predatory real estate speculators needs to stop.
Manufactured home communities are one of the last affordable options for seniors, veterans, and low-income working families. Furthermore, families can’t afford the legal resources to fight the corporate entities that threaten their security as mobile home owners.
No family should have to live with the stress and uncertainty of not knowing whether they will continue to have a roof over their head because of corporate greed. Having the Right of First Refusal and the Rent Justification fixes would help address this catastrophe.
We resident leaders are reaching out to you for your support, to put forth the proper laws that will protect mobile home owners and will alleviate this problem for all families across our state.
