Ann Premo
My name is Ann Premo. I moved into Alpine Mobile Home Village in 2009. Alpine was on my radar for quite some time because back then it was a beautifully kept and affordable community. When a lot opened up, I jumped on the opportunity and moved in. That all changed when Havenpark bought the park.
Before, the owner was more than willing to help with maintenance issues. He and his son even helped fix my water heater once. These days there’s barely ever anyone in the office, and when you can get in contact with someone from management, they ignore you. They don’t even shovel the snow or salt the roads. As someone with serious health issues, a fall on their unmaintained roads could seriously complicate things.
In 2021, I testified to the Michigan Legislature to help them understand what these predatory investors are doing to us. I mentioned many of the same things that are still going on today. But things continue to go downhill. Lot rent keeps rising and they are fee-ing us to death! Rent is up over 50%, and they add fees that they don’t even tell us about before rent is due.
Rent now takes up 60% of my retirement check, and there’s barely anything to show for these increases. If my son didn’t move in with me and help put money towards the rising cost of bills, I would've lost my home.
What Havenpark is doing here is hurting a lot of innocent people. We need to redraw the rules so that Alpine can feel like a family again instead of letting these predatory investors treat us like cash-cows.
