Cheryl Noldon

My name is Cheryl Noldon. I’ve lived in Mission Bay Mobile Home Park in San Leandro, CA, since 2019. When I moved here, I was struck by the beauty of the community. It was well-maintained and a more affordable option for me.

Our community is owned by BSM, a company that owns a few others in the South Bay. I’ve been OK, but I’ve noticed how some of my more vulnerable neighbors get taken advantage of. A lot of them are disgruntled, but it’s hard to get people to speak up. We need better communication from management, more lighting, and fair enforcement of rules.

The main concern for everyone is rent. Many of my neighbors are retired and rely on social security to get by. Even a small increase can make a big difference. There’s a wall separating our community from another property that they are repairing, but they are passing on the costs to us. That’s not right!

Since moving here, I’ve become more aware of what MHC living is like. I even decided to join the Mission Bay Residents Association here. Together, we have gone door-to-door here and in other communities to fight for a stronger Rent Control Ordinance in San Leandro. We’re continuing to distribute a survey to highlight residents’ concerns and even getting the media involved.

We contribute to our city and we need our voices to be heard just like everyone else! I love living here and I’m helping my neighbors advocate for themselves because I’m concerned about people losing their homes. We all have the right to a safe and affordable place to live!
