Rachel Caldwell

My name is Rachel Caldwell. I moved to Sylvan Crossings in Chelsea, Michigan, earlier this year as I was going through a divorce. I had seen the park. It looked nice. It seemed affordable, and the home I bought has a garage and a basement– perfect space for the kids when they are with me.

I bought the house through Sun Communities. The park manager kept pressuring me to act fast because there were other buyers. I didn’t realize how much they were charging for lot rent, and that water and sewer were almost $200 a month more! Then they never gave a title.

The manager accused my dog of attacking another dog and gave me no chance to share my side of the story. He just told me I had a week to get rid of my dog. When I complained to corporate, he got mad at me for “going behind his back,” and told me my dog had to be gone that day or I’d be evicted.

I have to get out of this place, but buyers can’t get financing without there being a title. The buyer who made a cash offer, backed out when the manager convinced her to buy a different house through the park. I wish I would have rented until my divorce was finalized. Companies shouldn’t be able to treat people this way.
