Jennifer Kutz
“Me and my kids shouldn’t have to live like this.”
My name is Jennifer Kutz, and I am now renting my third home in River Grove MHP in Berrien Springs in the last 2-1/2 years. Management had to move me out of the previous two because they were unlivable. This park is not a bad place. The people in here look out for each other. But we live in a very bad situation.
My current home has floors that slope, electrical sockets that short out, a kitchen sink that leaks (and grows mold), a hole above the bathroom shower that leaks, a kitchen exhaust fan and a stove that don’t work, countertops that are bubbled and cracked, and a blocked heating duct. The water has to be turned on and off manually to deal with the leaky bathroom.
When I told management my September and October payments would be held until these things were fixed, I got a 30-day eviction notice. The maintenance person has begun harassing me and my son. The other day I noticed someone had entered my home when I was not there.
Trying to deal with park management is a nightmare. I was once told I had to sign a paper saying I could not get my house inspected. The maintenance manager has lied about completing work orders. The park uses unlicensed contractors to do the work in here, if they even show up.
Me and my kids shouldn’t have to live like this. I work hard. I have serious health problems, but I always try to pay my bills on time. I don’t deserve this. None of us do.
