Ray Miazga
My name is Ray Miazga, and I’ve lived in Lincoln Park Mobile Home Park in Lincoln Park, Michigan for six years. On August 10th I’ll be homeless. Homes of America is taking my home. I’ve got two dogs and a cat. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I almost want to cry.
I am a welder by trade, and I worked for the railroads building and repairing freight cars. It was a good job until I blew my knees out.
In the six years I’ve been here, we’ve had four different owners, but this Homes of America is the worst. I don’t understand how these guys get away with what they’re doing. When they came in, they jacked up the rent $200 a month, and they don’t do ANYTHING!
They throw notices for rent increases on your door or under your door mat, and when dozens of people didn’t get them, they waited for months of back rent to build up and then took something like 30 people to court. Worse yet, the judge just accepts everything they say.
I bought my home and paid it off three owners ago. Of course those owners sold before giving my title, and I never got one. Now this year these new guys say I don’t own my home and owe them almost $12,000. They only have 13 months of payment records for the past six years, but it’s my job to prove that I own my house!
And worse yet, the judge bought it. He gave me ten days to prove I own the house because the park doesn’t have records of my payments!
Half of the houses in here are vacant they’ve evicted so many people. They served seven more people this week. They’re basically making people homeless.
Someone needs to do something! It may not help us in Lincoln Park, but we need to do something to help the other people they’re going to get next.
