I moved into Capital Estates Mobile Home Park in 2018. In the beginning, I liked the friendliness and the affordability. The managers would always come. But now, it’s like living in a prison because of the manager and her abuse.
About 60% of my income goes to housing expenses. Without things like food stamps, we could not afford to live here. And if we could, we would leave.
I feel angry that the manager has destroyed everything good in this park. Because she’s refused to let us use the clubhouse spaces for meetings, we had a resident meeting in someone’s garage. The manager then parked on the block and watched us the entire time. She served me a Temporary Restraining Order on Christmas Day when I was in the ICU after having major lung surgery.
The manager forced us to have our tenants meeting outside after we tried to use the clubhouse. There were 90-year old women standing outside, shivering. She’s not allowed to prohibit us from using these amenities that we pay for.
We want a new manager who will at least listen to us. The anti-harassment ordinance would open the door for a new manager that would listen and talk to us. Elected officials need to realize how poorly we’re being treated. None of the park owners have ever answered an email or telephone call from us. This ordinance is way overdue.
